🏛️ Bagore Ki Haveli – The Living Heritage of Udaipur

Overview

Standing gracefully on the banks of Lake Pichola, opposite the Gangaur Ghat, Bagore Ki Haveli is one of Udaipur’s most iconic heritage mansions. Built in the 18th century, it’s a beautiful showcase of Mewar’s royal architecture, artistic culture, and traditional lifestyle. Today, this haveli is not just a museum but a cultural hub where the vibrant Rajasthani spirit still lives on.

🕰️ History of Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli was constructed in the late 18th century by Amar Chand Badwa, the Prime Minister of Mewar during Maharana Pratap Singh II’s reign. Later, it became the residence of Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore, from whom it gets its present name. After years of neglect, the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC) restored the haveli in the 1980s, reviving its royal charm and opening it as a museum and performance venue for tourists.

🏗️ Architecture & Design

Bagore Ki Haveli is a stunning example of Rajputana architecture featuring:

  • 🪞 138 Rooms adorned with mirror work, colorful glass, and fresco paintings
  • 🌿 Courtyards & Jharokhas overlooking Lake Pichola
  • 🕍 Royal chambers displaying costumes, weapons, and artifacts
  • 🎭 Diwan-e-Aam & Diwan-e-Khaas (public and private halls) with intricate carvings and marble archways

Each section of the haveli tells a story — from royal weddings to everyday life in the Mewar dynasty.
