📜 Historical Background
Nahargarh Fort was built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as a defensive stronghold overlooking Jaipur. Originally named Sudershangarh, it was later renamed Nahargarh, meaning “abode of tigers,” after local legends claimed the spirit of a tiger haunted the site.
The fort was part of a trio of hill forts—alongside Jaigarh and Amer Fort—designed to protect the city. It also served as a retreat for the royal family and a safe haven during times of war.
