📜 Historical Significance
Constructed in 1727, the City Palace was designed as the ceremonial and administrative seat of the Maharajas of Jaipur. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, commissioned the palace as part of his vision for a planned city. Over the centuries, successive rulers expanded the complex, adding courtyards, gates, and palaces that reflect evolving architectural styles.
The palace still houses the Chandra Mahal, the residence of the current royal family, and parts of it are open to the public as museums and galleries.
